Abstract
The city of Escondido’s new Membrane Filtration Reverse Osmosis (MFRO) facility needed a stormwater storage solution that could prevent infiltration while supporting critical water processing operations. But, the project engineer had not specified an underground detention system in their plans. The experts at Prinsco were brought in to help see the project through.
Working with the design-build team at Brown & Caldwell/Filanc, Prinsco supplied 129 HydroStor® HS180 stormwater chambers as well as significant technical, engineering, and site support. The resulting 26,000 cubic feet of underground storage includes a thermoplastic liner to eliminate infiltration, an essential requirement for protecting sensitive water treatment processes.
Close collaboration before and after the sale was key to implementing this underground stormwater detention system–and preserving water quality–for the city of Escondido.
Key Project Features
- Efficient stormwater storage: 129 HydroStor HS180 stormwater chambers were installed beneath the facility site, providing more than 26,000 cubic feet of underground storage.
- Engineered for non-infiltration: A thermoplastic liner was incorporated into the design to eliminate infiltration, an essential requirement for protecting sensitive water treatment processes.
Built to rigorous standards: Meets AASHTO Section 12 loading requirements and ASTM F2418 and ASTM F2787 design and manufacturing standards. - Simplified maintenance: The system includes a sediment row, which captures more than 80% of silt and sediment and allows for simple, cost-effective maintenance.
