Abstract

Reconstructing an airport runway is a huge undertaking, with a multitude of phases, stakeholders, project teams, and milestones to manage. When an airport in Southeast Minnesota required a stormwater management system as part of their runway reconstruction project, the winning bidder, SM Hentges, chose Prinsco.

Since this manhole-to-manhole storm sewer project required a watertight seal, the team used 1480 lineal feet of 60” Goldflo® dual-wall pipe with integrated bell and spigot ends. Prinsco provided engineering support to design a plan that included the required cover depths.

Selecting the right pipe was the easy part. Planning and coordination were the greater challenge. Delivery schedules were tight and, because the job was on the airside of the facility, the team had to adhere to strict security protocols. Close collaboration between all involved parties was the key to seeing this project through to a successful finish.

Key project features

    • Security compliance: The job site was on the airside of the facility, requiring adherence to strict security protocols.
    • Close collaboration: Working together to adhere to tight timelines and rigorous safety constraints, the Prinsco and SM Hentges teams were able to keep the project on track and on schedule.
    • Engineering support: Prinsco engineering contributed to the design plan, ensuring that the required cover depths were met.
    • Watertight seal: Goldflo® dual-wall pipe with the integrated bell and spigot ends is manufactured to the rigorous requirements of AASHTO M294 or ASTM F2306, along with the ASTM D3212 watertight laboratory test requirements.
